HG11-Piesko wins Great Lakes Bash

In the first Fall 2016/2017 tournament season of the year, HG11-Piesko took home its first tournament title of the year with a 4 - 0 record (sweeping the competition).

The HG11-Piesko team beat the Taylor Assault team by a score of 12-4 where JR Morrow had himself a game going 3-3 from the plate with 2 singles and 1 triple.  From the mound JR started and recorded the win.  He went 3 and 2/3  innings striking out 10, letting up 5 walks and allowing 3 runs on 4 hits.  Both Andrew Hiller and Carson Raether had 2 hits in the game.

The second game HG11-Piesko won by a score of 8-1 over the Lake Orion Chargers.  Ty Trahey took the start and went 5 complete innings and collected the win.  He allowed 4 hits, 4 walks and 1 earned run.  Carson Raether had 3 singles whiles Dave Zilch and JR Morrow had 2 hits each.

The 3rd pool play game HG11-Piesko won by a score of 11-0 over the Legacy Baseball team.  Braeden Chiles started and completed the game from the mound with a stellar performance.  He collected the win and the complete game shutout while allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 K's and 0 runs.  Andrew Hiller recorded 3 hits in the game including a double while Morrow, Trahey and Chiles each recorded 2 hits each.

The championship game matched HG11-Piesko with Taylor Assault once again.  David Zilch recorded the complete game win going 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, 6 K's and 1 earned run.  The bigger hitter in the title game was Caleb Bonemer who had 2 hits including a triple and 3 RBI's.  Nash and Hiller had 2 hits each.

The HG11-Piesko team looked good and the pitching, fielding and hitting was impressive this early in the season.  JR Morrow was 8 for 9 from the plate with 3 RBI's, Andrew Hiller was 8 for 10 from the plate with 4 RBI's and Carson Raether was 6 for 10.  HG had 45 hits in 4 games (11 R / game) while our opponents had 16 hits (4 H / game).  

The pitching did well only allowing 6 runs in the 4 games played.  We pitched 6 different pitchers throughout the tournament Morrow, Whitney, Trahey, Raether, Chiles and Zilch.  All pitchers showing good control and fielding their positions.  

Both Morrow and Raether caught two runners on the base paths attempting to steal.  Our opponents stole 9 bases successfully (69%) while HG runners stole 48 bases and were caught a total of 4 times (93%).  Dave Zilch picked-off one runner and our opponents left 15 runners on base during the tournament.
